The World Health Organization (WHO) has
designated the IRSST's Scientific Direction as one of its collaborating
centres. The main role of the collaborating centres (CC) is to provide
strategic support to WHO in fulfilling its mandated activities and to
help it ensure the scientific validity of global health work.

CONSTRUCTION INDUSTRY
CONSTRUCTION WORKERS' EXPOSURE TO CRYSTALLINE
SILICA
In the construction industry, occupational exposure to
crystalline silica is common in several trades due not only to its
presence in many handled materials, but also to the processes. In
Québec, as in other jurisdictions, the crystalline silica exposure
levels in the construction industry still exceed frequently the
regulatory limit values.
This report identifies the tasks and tools
that may expose workers to silica at levels above the regulatory level.

the next generation
YOUNG DAY EXPLORERS
Four students who wish to
become chemists spent the day of April 18th at the IRSST; an activity
organized by Jeunes Explorateurs d'un jour (young day explorers). This
organization allows students of 4th and 5th Secondary School to explore,
during a whole day, a job or a profession which interests them.
