*Objective:* To evaluate the effect of educational strategies on sleep
quality and its relation to diabetes-related distress and glycemic control
in people with type 2 diabetes mellitus (DM2). *Materials and methods:*
Randomized clinical trial involving two groups. Group 1 (G1, n = 45)
received verbal guidance and leaflets on sleep hygiene strategies and group
2 (G2, n = 46) received usual health care guidelines on self-care with the
feet. Sleep was assessed by the Pittsburgh Sleep Quality Inventory and
diabetes-related distress by the Diabetes Distress Scale. Linear
mixed-effects models and linear regression model were used for the
statistical analysis. *Results:* At the end of the follow-up, sleep quality
improvement (p = 0.02) was verified in G1. Low diabetes-related distress
score (p = 0.03), being male (p = 0.02), belonging to G1 (p = 0.002), and
age (p = 0.04) contributed to better sleep quality. *Conclusion:*
Educational guidelines on sleep hygiene in patients with DM2 were effective
in improving sleep quality, measured by the PSQI instrument and emotional
stress related to diabetes as assessed by the Diabetes Distress Scale.

*Objective: *To assess the effect of an intervention of humanized nursing
accompaniment, at home, on the quality of life of people with advanced
cancer and of their family caregivers. *Method:* Pre-experimental study
with pre- and post-intervention measurements. The intervention included
home visits, internet platform, and telephone contact for three months. The
sample was comprised of 17 patient-caregiver dyads. The data analysis was
descriptive and correlational. *Results:* The study obtained a large
magnitude of the effect of the intervention, in the global health of the
person with cancer, with highly significant differences between the pre-
and post-intervention, besides the decrease of symptoms, like fatigue and
dyspnea. In the caregivers, there was moderate magnitude of the effect of
the intervention on quality of life, in the settings of social
relationships and environment, with highly significant differences between
the pre- and post-intervention. *Conclusion:* A humanized nursing care
intervention, which reinforces and reaffirms the social, affective,
spiritual, and communication areas in the patient-family caregiver dyad,
increases the quality of life of people with advanced cancer and that of
their caregivers.

*Objective: *To identify the attitudes elderly women have with respect to
their sexuality. *Material and method: *Exploratory, descriptive study of
qualitative approach conducted during the second semester of 2018, with the
participation of 19 elderly women, between 60 and 69 years of age, members
of two groups for the elderly located in the city of Rio Grande-RS, Brazil.
Data was collected through individual, semistructured interview and audio
recorded. Thereafter, the data were subjected to the Bardin thematic
analysis. *Results: *Upon analyzing the data, four categories emerged:
Change in the expression of sexuality after 60 years of age; feelings
derived from talking about sexuality; with whom do they talk about
sexuality; importance of affective relationships for the elderly. The
elderly women show favorable attitudes regarding their sexuality and noted
no significant changes in the expression of sexuality after turning 60
years of age. However, they were embarrassed to talk about this matter
because they had received a repressive education. In addition, they sought
friends to address any questions. *Conclusion:* Affective, loving, and
sexual relation are extremely important, given that it promotes physical
and mental wellbeing, generates feelings of joy and happiness, which
provides more vitality and pleasure in living to the elderly women.

*Objectives:* To identify in the scientific literature the identity-related
configurations inherent to the nurse’s managerial practices of a
professional that works in a hospital setting, and to analyze them in the
light of the Structural Dialectic Care Model (SDCM). *Materials and
method: *The article concerns about a qualitative research where an
integrative review was made enabling the selection of 15 articles, analyzed
in light of the SDCM. *Results:* From the 15 selected articles, three
thematic axes were established: Leadership, care and conflicts.
*Conclusions:* It was concluded that the SDCM has made it possible to
discover the nurse’s identity models as a managerial agent in the diverse
pluralities articulated to the identity-related processes of such
professional.

*Objective:* This work sought to evaluate a physical exercise program of
moderate intensity in patients operated of bariatric surgery and its
influence on muscle strength. *Method:* Randomized clinical trial, with an
intervention group and a control group. Forty-three patients were operated
of bariatric surgery. The intervention group was applied a program of
moderate physical activity during six months. Grip strength and
bioimpedance were measured at their baseline form, at one month, and six
months after surgery. A bivariate study was conducted to observe variable
changes. *Results:* Upon conducting Student´s t for independent samples in
all the variables (weight, body mass index, grip strength, lean mass, fat
mass, and metabolism), the result is that no significant differences exist
between the intervention group and the control group with *p *> 0.05.
*Conclusion:* A program of moderate physical activity lasting six months in
patients intervened of bariatric surgery has no significant result in the
development of muscle mass evaluated through manual dynamometry and
bioimpedance.

*Objective:* To assess the quality of life of patients with advanced cancer
in palliative therapy and in palliative care. *Materials and Methods:*
Quantitative,
observational, cross-sectional, and analytic study conducted in a teaching
hospital in Paraná, Brazil, from January to June 2018, with 126 patients:
107 in palliative therapy; 19 in exclusive palliative care. The
questionnaires for data collection were: Quality of Life Questionnaire-Core
15-Palliative, Functional Assessment of Chronic Illness Therapy-Palliative
Care 14, and Edmonton Symptom Assessment System. The Spearman
non-parametric coefficient test was used for the analysis. *Results:* The
overall quality of life in palliative therapy and in palliative care was,
respectively, 71.54/59.65; when correlating the total score of quality of
life of the Quality of Life Questionnaire-Core 15-Palliative with the
Functional Assessment of Chronic Illness Therapy-Palliative Care 14 (p =
0.001), and the Edmonton Symptom Assessment System (p = 0.001), significant
difference of better quality of life was observed in the palliative
therapy. *Conclusion: *Patients in palliative therapy have good overall
quality of life, while the palliative care group reports regular quality of
life. The symptoms were milder in the palliative therapy and more intense
and with greater significance in palliative care; hence, knowing the
compromise of quality of life will help professionals in planning
interventions with transdisciplinary approach for patients and for their
families.

*Objective:* This work sought to identify, in the discourse of educators,
which strategies they can implement, within the school setting, to prevent
and cope with the experience of domestic violence by adolescents.
*Method:* Qualitative
study based on the critical-liberating perspective of Paulo Freire,
conducted with 20 educators from a public school in Salvador, Bahia,
Brazil. To collect the data, the interview was used and, to systematize
them, the discourse of the collective subject. *Results:* The discourses
reveal the following coping strategies of domestic violence experienced by
adolescents: place into action the Guardianship Council; create reception
and listening spaces for students; strengthen bonds between the school and
family; promote educational actions, and articulate knowledge.
*Conclusions: *The study provides paths to prevent and confront family
abuses that compromise the physical and mental health of children and
adolescents, with impact upon school performance. The study suggests the
contribution of primary health care through actions linked to the Health in
School Program and the insertion of the theme of violence in the different
university careers, given that caring for children and adolescents and
defending them constitutes an obligation for all citizens.

*Objective:* The aim of this research was to analyse the association
between successful aging (SA) and subjective well-being (SWB) in different
domains. *Method:* The study is quantitative and cross-sectional, with a
sample consisting of 800 older people, including 569 indigenous (Aymara and
Mapuche) participants living in northern and southern Chile. *Results:* Domains
associated with SA are satisfaction with health, satisfaction with social
relationships, satisfaction with future security, and satisfaction with
spiritual and religious experiences. SA is also positively associated with
being a woman, being young, and not being indigenous. *Conclusion:* The
research has two main practical implications. First, SWB domains may be
incorporated into socio-health interventions as they relate to elements
that can be changed or improved (health, social inclusion, security, and
beliefs). Second, this study suggests a situation of risk among older
indigenous Chileans, confirming the premise that the life paths of
indigenous Chileans at social risk give rise to a more socially unequal old
age with; therefore, it is important to analyse positive aspects that
promote better old age.
