Objectives: To know the most used types of touch and understand their
meanings for physical therapists working in a hospital environment, from
the perspective of their feelings, attitudes and behaviors during care.
Materials and methods: Qualitative case study conducted by physical
therapists working at a hospital in Brazil. For data collection,
participant observation and semi-structured interviews were used as
techniques. Data were analyzed according to the thematic content analysis
proposed by Minayo. Results: 16 physical therapists participated in the
study and, from the analysis of the empirical material, four thematic
categories emerged: Instrumental touch as a fundamental resource of
hospital physical therapy assistance; expressive touch: Its little presence
does not mean absence of affection; physical therapist’s feelings related
to touch and difficulty talking about touch means that there is a
deficiency in training. Conclusions: The underuse of expressive touch
revealed the lack of knowledge and unpreparedness in the formation of the
physical therapist, which, added to the lack of self-knowledge, hinders the
affection and the creation of bonds in relationships. All of this justifies
the rare studies on affective touch in health, which reflects an area to be
explored and the need to sensitize professionals to influence the quality
and humanization of care.

Objective: Identify nursing care performed by nurses to evaluate, prevent,
and treat cutaneous xerosis in the elderly. Materials and Methods:
Descriptive study with quantitative approach, conducted with 101 care
nurses working in the medical clinic and in the intensive care units of
four hospitals in Paraíba, Brazil. The data collection took place between
July and September 2018 through an instrument composed of sociodemographic
variables and by items related with nursing care. The statistical analysis
was performed by distribution and frequency calculations, central tendency
measures, standard deviation, and chi-squared test for categorical
variables. Results: The majority stated always considering the age range
(84.2 %), assessing skin color (83.2 %), evaluating skin turgor and
elasticity (64.4 %), looking for the existence of skin fissures (53.5 %),
and noticing the existence of lesions on the skin (90.1 %). Of the
participating professionals, 83.2 % reported never having used imported
equipment to evaluate skin hydration. Conclusions: The study showed that
nurses emphasized the importance of considering age range, assessing skin
color, being aware of areas with hyperemia, and noticing the existence of
lesions, as well as the need for continuing education to improve the
quality of care.

Objective: This work sought to assess the effectiveness of the treatment
applied in patients with acute pain in the emergency service by triage
nursing. Materials and Methods: Cross-sectional, observational descriptive
study of quantitative approach, with measures of central tendency in 348
patients, conducted in 2016. An ad hoc questionnaire was used, elaborated
by the emergency service, which assesses the intensity of pain through a
numerical scale and a pain intervention protocol that includes physical and
pharmacological measures. Results: After applying the first treatment,
80.17 % of the patients experienced improvement; 7.18 % required a second
treatment and, of these, 87.5 % improved and 12.5 % suffered no
modifications. The nursing staff treated the patients according to the
protocol, with AINES and Metamizole, primarily. The rest were remitted to
medical evaluation and another 40 patients rejected treatment. Conclusions:
A high percentage of patients exist who improve their perception of pain
after the first treatment administered by the triage nursing personnel. The
results suggest revising and updating the protocol in the first treatment.

primero en el grupo sin SD (92,5 % en las primeras 24 horas vs 20 %;

Objective: adapt and validate the instrument Children Care Quality at
Hospital (CCQH) to assess the quality of nursing care of hospitalized
children for the Portuguese language of Portugal. Materials and Methods:
content, language, and conceptual validity methodological study, with
translation, feedback, and reflection. A non-probabilistic simple was used
of 252 children between 7 and 11 years of age, hospitalized due to acute
disease in nine services of six Portuguese hospitals. The reliability and
validity of the results were determined to measure the psychometric
properties of the instrument. Construct validity was calculated through
exploratory factor analysis of main components with Varimax rotation and
the internal consistency by determining the Cronbach’s alpha coefficient.
Results: the internal consistency has adequate psychometric characteristics
suitable for the Portuguese population (Cronbach’s alpha values between
0.66 and 0.82). The instrument maintained 49 items grouped into three
categories: characteristics, activities, and environment. The psychometric
characteristics of the CCQH, adapted and validated for Portuguese,
guarantees its reliability and validity to measure satisfaction with the
quality of nursing care from the perspective of school-aged children.
Conclusions: the instrument could be used to assess children’s satisfaction
with the quality of nursing care during their hospitalization.

Objective: To translate and culturally adapt the Scale to Measure the Care
Ability of Family Caregivers of People with Chronic Diseases to the
Brazilian context. Materials and Methods: This is a methodological study
that followed the steps recommended by Dorcas Beaton for translating and
culturally adapting this scale in Brazil. All ethical precepts have been
respected. Results: The first translation of the instrument into Brazilian
Portuguese was done by two translators; the consensual version was then
established, which was back-translated into Spanish by another independent
translator. The committee of specialists comprised seven health
professionals, obtaining a content validity index (CVI) = 1.00 in 41 items,
CVI = 0.86 in three items and CVI = 0.71 in four items. After adjusting the
seven items, a pretest was applied to 14 family caregivers of people with
chronic kidney disease. Based on this, the participants’ difficulties were
observed, and then the items were reviewed. Conclusions: After the
translation and adaptation process was completed, the Brazilian version of
the instrument entitled “Scale to Measure the Care Ability of Family
Caregivers of People with Chronic Diseases” was obtained.

Objective: the study sought to identify, in national and international
publications, the principal Nursing interventions aimed at patients with
intracranial hypertension. Materials and Method: integrative literature
review with search in LILACS, PubMed, Scopus, Web of Science, Cinahal, and
Google Scholar databases, from 2013 to 2018. Results: the sample was
comprised of seven articles fulfilling the inclusion criteria. Two thematic
categories were established for the Nursing interventions aimed at patients
with intracranial hypertension: cognitive skills and clinical reasoning,
necessary to control neuro-physiological parameters and prevent
intracranial hypertension, and evidence-based practices to improve care for
neuro-critical patients. Conclusions: intracranial hypertension is an event
of great clinical impact, whose complications can be minimized and control
through specific Nursing interventions that encompass control of
neuro-physiological and hemodynamic parameters and prevention of increased
intracranial pressure related with the performance of procedures by the
Nursing staff.
