</p><p><span style="font-family: 'Work Sans', sans-serif">Este año con el tema “Mida la presión arterial con precisión, contrólela, viva más tiempo”, se propone informar acerca de la importancia de conocer nuestros valores habituales de presión arterial, que permita un diagnóstico precoz y mantenerla en valores óptimos. Si bien existe un criterio de cifras a partir de las cuales hablamos de hipertensión arterial (HTA), no todas las personas tenemos el mismo valor óptimo de presión arterial, existe variabilidad biológica. </span></p><p>
</p><p><span style="font-family: 'Work Sans', sans-serif">Desde la Comisión Honoraria para la Salud Cardiovascular (CHSCV) fomentamos tomar acción en la prevención, en el diagnóstico precoz y el control de las cifras.</span></p><p>
</p><p><strong><span style="font-family: 'Work Sans', sans-serif">¿Qué es la HTA?</span></strong></p><p>
</p><p><span style="font-family: 'Work Sans', sans-serif">La HTA es una enfermedad crónica que se presenta cuando se eleva la presión arterial (PA) en forma sostenida por encima de los valores considerados normales. Se consideran cifras elevadas para un adulto a partir de una presión sistólica de 140 mmHg y diastólica de 90 mmHg, lo que comúnmente escuchamos como “la alta” y “la baja”. Es decir que cuando nuestras cifras alcanzan o superan 140/90 mm Hg o lo que coloquialmente decimos 14/9, tenemos niveles elevados de PA o HTA. </span></p><p>
</p><p><span style="font-family: 'Work Sans', sans-serif">Es habitual que aún con cifras de presión arterial elevadas, no tengamos síntomas, sin embargo, las consecuencias pueden ser muy graves, por este motivo se la considera el «asesino silencioso». Si no se trata y se controlan las cifras de PA, puede provocar un accidente cerebrovascular, ataque cardíaco, enfermedad renal crónica, pérdida de visión o demencia.</span></p><p>
</p><p><span style="font-family: 'Work Sans', sans-serif">La hipertensión, además de ser una enfermedad en sí misma, es el principal factor de riesgo de muerte en todo el mundo y según el primer estudio de Carga Global de Enfermedad de Uruguay, la presión arterial elevada es el segundo factor de riesgo para ambos sexos con más años de vida perdidos por discapacidad, años de vida perdidos por muerte prematura y años de vida saludables perdidos.</span></p><p>
</p><p><span style="font-family: 'Work Sans', sans-serif">La hipertensión arterial es también un factor de riesgo para enfermedades vasculares que pueden afectar a los riñones, al cerebro y al corazón.</span></p><p>
</p><p><span style="font-family: 'Work Sans', sans-serif">Según la última encuesta de factores de riesgo en el Uruguay, en adultos de 25 a 64 años un 37 % de los uruguayos son hipertensos, y sólo la tercera parte lo sabe.</span></p><p>
</p><p><span style="font-family: 'Work Sans', sans-serif">Lo bueno es que, como la hipertensión arterial es una enfermedad muy relacionada con los hábitos y estilos de vida, podemos actuar para prevenirla y controlarla:</span></p><p class="last-child">

<div data-block-id="39" class="mceText" id="dataBlockId-39" style="width:100%"><p><span style="font-family: 'Work Sans', sans-serif">Desde la CHSCV, destacamos el rol fundamental que tiene la realización de la actividad física habitual (e idealmente diaria) en el control de las cifras de la PA. Además de generar efectos protectores a nivel cardiovascular y frente al riesgo del desarrollo de diversas enfermedades crónicas, ser activos físicamente, incorporando el movimiento en nuestras actividades cotidianas, tiene efectos demostrados en la reducción y mejor control de las cifras de presión arterial (1). Mejorar el control de las cifras de PA, puede generar una reducción de la necesidad del consumo de medicamentos y esto representa un menor gasto en salud y menos efectos secundarios vinculados con el uso de la medicación (2).</span></p><p>
</p><p><strong><span style="font-family: 'Work Sans', sans-serif">Es importante tener presente, conocer y medir nuestras cifras de PA. </span></strong></p><p>
</p><p><span style="font-family: 'Work Sans', sans-serif">Desde el 2017 la Sociedad Internacional de Hipertensión (ISH) y la Liga Mundial de Hipertensión (WHL), plantean trabajar durante todo el mes de mayo, con la consigna Mayo Mes de Medición (May Measurement Month) con el objetivo de que las personas de más de 18 años que no se han medido la presión en el último año lo realicen y conozcan sus cifras habituales, para tomar acciones. </span></p><p>

A través de esta iniciativa se busca facilitar la medición de la presión a trabajadores de empresas e instituciones, a través del préstamo de equipos automáticos de toma de presión arterial. La idea es que los trabajadores puedan llevar los equipos a sus hogares para conocer, seguir y registrar los valores de presión propios y de la familia. Luego de dos o tres días se devuelve y se “pasa la posta” a otro compañero.</span></p></li></ul><p>
